At Journey Church we rely heavily on our Journey Group leaders to lead and shepherd small groups of people to help carry the ministry responsibilities of the church. In Ephesians 4:11,12 it states that ‘He (this is, our leader, Jesus Christ) gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints (that is you) for the work of the ministry (specifically in this context, the task of a Journey Group leader) for the building up of the body of Christ (those within Journey Church that are in your Journey Group). For this reason, the stakes are high and the bar is set high. We are entrusting to you people that have been entrusted to us as the leaders of Journey Church. We are grateful for those who join us as in this area of leadership.
Below you will find some resources to help you understand your role as well as equip you for ministering to others. If you have any questions or need additional help, please contact Paul Crouthamel at

So you have decided to lead a group, but have no idea what topic to choose, or curriculum to use. What do you do? First of all, don't feel like you are alone in asking that question. Many have gone before you and are walking along side of you that have asked the same question. Here are some quick suggestions:
- Pray for some direction from God. The letter of James in the Bible tells us to ask God for wisdom and that He doesn't hold back, so ask away!
- Ask your coach what he thinks. Sometimes he will have some insight about new curriculum that would fit the people in your group.
- Spend time assessing the needs of your group. Ask questions like,"What is happening in their lives?" and "What would help them in their spiritual life?"
- Check out your options and compare things like cost, length of study, and type of study. It's important to work at matching up curriculum with your particular group.
- Establish a balanced approach to your selection process. The four categories we use are: doctrine (example: Study of the Holy Spirit); spiritual disciplines (example: How to study the Bible); relational (example: parenting); and Bible studies (example: book of the Bible, character study, topical
