Our Story

In December of 2004, God impressed upon Jimmy Carroll the vision to start a church in North Raleigh. Jimmy, and his wife Beverly, were joined by 10 core families who God led to take the journey with them. Journey Church began in the party room of Buffalo Lanes Bowling Center on Oak Forest Road in North Raleigh. They met for the first time on February 27, 2005 with about 10 families. That wasn’t the official launch date, but it was simply the beginning of a six month planning process to figure out what it was that they were setting out to do. They spent months developing a leadership team and planning for the September launch date. Along the way they met in several different places including a hotel meeting room, another church building, and area homes. It was a time when God began to unite a group of people to make a difference in the North Raleigh area.

On September 18, 2005, Journey Church opened the doors for its first service at Millbrook Elementary School. Over 250 people showed up on that first Sunday. From the very first day Journey has sensed the hand of God on the church and is committed to following God’s plan for the future. Each day brings a new excitement as people are connecting with God and others and pursuing a life of significance.
